Blake Lively’s Versace suit is straight off the menswear runway

Recognise Blake Lively’s Versace look from your new season shopping? Daring fluorescent lime. Chest hugging knitwear. Contemporary tailoring. You’d be forgiven for assuming that Lively plucked it straight off the Versace womenswear catwalk. But you’d be wrong. The head turning three-piece is in fact a menswear spring/summer19 favourite. First seen on Versace’s catwalk in Milan during the June shows.

Lively’s look follows a year in which many designers placed both men and women side by side on their runways (Donatella Versace included), championed most recently by Jean Paul Gaultier’s haute couture outing. The designer pledged his allegiance to genderless dressing by catwalk protests, and near identical women’s and men’s looks.

Lively teamed her look with heels in jubilant pink tones and high-impact jewellery. Along with bright pink lips, Lively’s accessory choices showcased the suits versatility, moving from menswear to high-octane womenswear in one fell swoop. We’re on board if it means extra rails to shop from.
