The project supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids

The Phantom of the Opera, the CFDA and the Bank of America have joined forces to commemorate Broadway’s longest-running musical with a unique project in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids.

In celebration of the stage show’s 30th anniversary, 30 designers were tasked with transforming the iconic Phantom mask, which was originally designed by Maria Björnson and realised by milliner Rodney Gordon. Now, these one-of-a-kind #PhantomFashion30 masks are up for auction to benefit the charity, which provides lifesaving medication, healthy meals, and emergency assistance to those in need.

The participating designers and brands include Badgley Mischka, Chloe Gosselin, Christian Roth, Dennis Basso, Edie Parker, Eugenia Kim, Gigi Burris, Ilesteva, Isabel and Ruben Toledo, Jana Matheson, Kendra Scott, Kenneth Cole, Lizzie Fortunato, Marchesa, Naeem Khan, Nick Graham, Nicole Miller, Pamella Roland, Paul Marlow, Rebecca Minkoff, Sachin & Babi, Sally LaPointe, Stephen Dweck, Swarovski, Tadashi Shoji, Tanya Taylor, Title of Work, Vivienne Tam, Wolk Morais, and Zang Toi.

“I know that our beloved designer, the late genius Maria Björnson, would be honoured to have her iconic design interpreted by these amazing designers and celebrated by the fashion world,” explained Cameron Mackintosh, producer of The Phantom of the Opera.

The auction for Broadway Cares starts online today, while the masks themselves are heading to a temporary home at the Museum of the City of New York where they will be on display for 30 days.
