Haute Couture AW17: Fashion Roundup

The Hand Shrapnel: Italian couturier Antonio Grimaldi never fails to impress with his artful and supremely decadent Haute Couture creations. For autumn/winter17, the label's chunky and metallic rings offset an otherwise delicate collection with daywear pieces that seamlessly pass from happy hour to dinner.
The Earrings: Alexandre Vauthier's Haute Couture autumn/winter17 show space at the Petit Palais, Paris, was brimming with draped metallic mini dresses to laced-up jumpsuits. However, it was the brand's oversized statement earrings with dense embellishments that really got our attention. Wear with a minimal, block-coloured ensemble to avoid looking too noisy.
The Reference: A.F. Vandevorst interestingly chose to integrate reworked uniforms, such as regiment braiding, manipulating the stripes so that the pattern appears out of line. The collection’s baroque aesthetic was underscored by lavish embellishments that packed a punch.
The Bride: Well-known for the unbelievably creative transformations of show spaces, Chanel's consistent runway highlight is its ivory-drenched bride. For autumn/winter17, Camille Hurel was handpicked to wear Karl Lagerfeld's most recent wedding gown. Black booties and a vintage Victorian-esque hair piece elevated the look from pretty to glamorous.
The Headpiece: After several seasons, Elie Saab has swapped his signature eveningwear for layers of tulle and heavy swaths of velvet, which transformed the designer's modern aesthetic into a romantic and supernatural fairytale. Gold wreaths perched atop flowing tresses added an otherworldly dimension to the graceful ensembles.
The Colour: Design maestro Karl Lagerfeld wowed front row goers at Paris Haute Couture Week with Fendi’s dramatic block-coloured fur ensembles that looked as good as they did comfortable. Candyfloss-pink plush coats with strong necklines were worn with matching separates in this ultra feminine look.
The Midriff: Georges Hobeika, a Beirut-born brand that still has its main atelier in Lebanon, used featherweight chiffons and ornate fabrics to achieve seamless tailoring that harks back to Medieval beauty. The midriff takes centre stage in the autumn/winter collection, and works thanks to a modest neckline and form-fitted skirt.
The Hair: High-shine metalic gowns were elevated by Guo Pei's signature three-dimensional embroideries in a plethora of sugar-sweet hues ranging from sticky caramel to marshmallow-cream. Yet it was the delicate hair embellishments and floral ornaments that took our breath away.
The Lip: Giambattista Valli goes back to basics with a bold and seductive red lip. A classic and universally beloved pout, models's bee stung lips popped amongst the rich and regal hues that achieved minimalism and extravagance simultaneously.
The Shoe: Iris Van Herpen has long experimented with fashion, art and science - the brand's Haute Couture autumn/winter17 collection is no different, with a plethora of glass, peacock heads and iron filings dominating the dramatic runway. The Dutch designer has also unveiled her latest 3D-printed heels, that came in both black and white.
The Waist: French fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier celebrated the female form with various modest separates that somehow remained both sultry and powerful. Dual-toned ensembles featured skinny, ultra-tight belts that cinched-in waists and, alongside strong shoulders, perfected the traditional hourglass silhouette.
The Hat: Holland's Ronald van der Kemp's fabulously eccentric and playful collection boasted a somewhat Seventies aesthetic. Long, luscious locks were won with deep, moss-green and burnt-orange fabrics. Oversized, wide-brimmed hats framed petite frames and faces, adding mystery to the forest-infused assortment.
The Bag: A British luxury label designed by Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, Ralph&Russo's autumn/winter17 collection was dominated by Ice Queen colours and metallic shine. Space Age shapes were meticulously fused with fairytale-inspired structures and elegance, which transformed otherwise minimal handbags into breathtaking delicacies.
The Gloves: In 1935 Man Ray photographed hands, which Picasso had painted to look like gloves. Inspired, Schiaparelli have ingeniously reversed the process by applying false nails in red python to gloves since the autumn/winter 1936 Haute Couture collection. An ongoing tradition, these pillar box-red accessories are real head turners.
The Scarf: Intimidating silhouettes are theatrical and opulent at Ulyana Sergeenko, who ensures couture pieces transcend costumes with exquisite detailing decisions. Thick fur scarves are draped upon ladylike dresses and Forties-inspired suits for a timeless and classic fashion mosaic.
The Power Suit: Syrian designer, Rami Al Ali, makes a return to the French Capital to showcase an elegant and creative women's suit in luxurious fabric that explores the intricate qualities of the modern woman
