Gem Dior: Abstract Designs And Rainbow Hues For 2021

The launch of a new Dior Joaillerie collection is always cause for celebration, but Victoire de Castellane’s latest line Gem Dior is twice as special, marking the first time the creative director has crafted both watches and jewellery together in the same collection.

Comprising seven spectacular watches and eleven pieces of jewellery – think an irresistible series of rings, bracelets and earrings – Gem Dior is another fine example of the incredible savoir-faire perpetuated by the House’s impassioned craftsmen, resulting in abstract, 1970s-flavoured pieces inspired by both nature and natural minerals.

“I wanted to design a collection of watches and jewellery that wasn’t figurative,” explains de Castellane. “The spirit of the collection is modern, it’s a style I would describe as abstract organic, an organised commotion that proved a true technical challenge for our ateliers.”

The new Gem Dior line includes watch models with irregular, octagonal faces and claspless bracelets, as well as rings, bracelets and earrings that draw inspiration from the geometry of stones. The timepiece’s original casing mimics the appearance of minerals, while the bracelet was inspired by the way Monsieur Dior pinned fabric samples for his haute couture creations on sheets of paper. Its colourful pieces come crafted from malachite, lapis lazuli, carnelian, pink opal and tiger’s eye, while monochrome looks come in yellow, pink or white gold – some with pavéd diamonds for added sparkle.

International Women’s Day is on the horizon, and we think Gem Dior is the perfect way to treat yourself.
