When in doubt with what to wear on the weekend there’s nothing more comforting, or comfortable, than the feel of denim. Denim, initially gained its popularity in the Seventies when Jacob Davis, a Nevada-based tailor created the first pair of rivet-reinforced jeans for a client who was searching for a strong pair of trousers for her husband to cut wood. This would eventually lead to the discovery of denim as a durable garment and to David signing a contract with Levis Strauss & Co,, who became the inventors of denim as we know it now. Today, we’re looking at how this textile is worn best.

Working Cool

Heading for a friend’s lunch party but need to drop by the office for a quick meeting? The denim jacket gives you the perfect amount of confidence when paired with the right pieces. Opt for a knee length shirt-dress paired with light jersey tops worn with lightly patterned stilettos. A denim jacket will sit perfectly on your shoulders due to the thickness of the fabric and won’t budge unlike other fabrics, giving you that perfect edge of relaxed professionalism.

Bags Matter

To elevate the look of your favourite denim jeans pair with a slightly lower heel, as well as elongated tops and, most importantly, a statement bag. But always remember, the strongest statements are made by the most subtle of accessories. Therefore opt for block-coloured leather or tanned crocodile for effortless elegance.

Bomber + Jeans

There’s only one staple trendier than the effortless leather jacket this season: the bomber jacket. Appearing in a variety of shades, textures and textiles, it’s best work with crisp white shirts and blue denim. The combination of the jacket’s luxe-silk creates a renewed preppiness for day and night. For a cool pop of colour, pair your jeans with mustard or emerald velvet heels.
