From puffers and trenches to pretty pastel numbers, this season's coat trends will earn you some serious style points.

While a winter coat may not seem like a necessity in the UAE, we’re not ones to let a little weather get in the way of one of our favourite wardrobe staples. After all, travel will be back on the agenda soon, and constant movements in and out of the AC often require something a little more substantial than a light sweater.

Either way, 2020’s jacket trends are too gorgeous to ignore.

Whether you’re a fan of puffers, trenches, or faux fur that will ensure you stand out in a crowd (remember those?), we’ve seen a number of coat trends emerge this season that will make for the perfect cherry on top of your carefully curated ensemble.

Without further ado…

The Cape

The coat du jour, the easy elegance of a statement cape makes this style a great addition to your wardrobe, and perfect for the office, evening or something more low-key. Opt for a version in a camel tone for extra style points.

Leather

We know we’re pushing it weatherwise here, but luxe leather trenches look so good when teamed with skinny jeans and chunky boots that we just can’t overlook them. Short, long, white, black – a leather coat is so versatile that it goes with just about any outfit, and designers have consistently been putting their own spin on their own styles this season. Go on, you know you want to…

The Statement Trench

We love nothing more than when a traditional wardrobe staple gets elevated to new heights, and this season the trusty trench coat has done just that. From oversize silhouettes and pastel colour palettes to prints and rubber fabrics a al Bottega Veneta, a statement trench is the perfect transitional piece, too, and will work for just about any occasion.

The Puffer

One to save for your next European adventure, the popular puffer offers extreme volume and optimal comfort. Popular with supermodels and fashion editors alike, the 2020 version is ultra long, minimalist and enough by itself to raise one’s fashion status. Colours should be neutral, but team with printed statement boots if you’re looking to make an impact.

Pastel Power

Pastels for winter? Well actually, kind of groundbreaking. Sweet enough to induce toothache, a lovely ice-cream palette is all the rage this season, and opting for milky shades versus the usual winter black, greys and browns add a feminine touch, too. Wear with everything from jeans and a tee to leather pants and ankle boots.

Faux Fur

Eco-friendly yet the epitome of style, this season’s faux fur coats are light, fluffy and as unpretentious as they come. Not only were no animals harmed the making of these statement coats, your bank account is unlikely to be assaulted either, making it a win/win all round.
