MOJEH Editor-in-Chief Mojeh Izadpanah shares her favourite pages and pieces from the December/January issue: The Over The Top issue.

This issue we’re feeling a little merry, and it’s not just because the festive season fast approaches. In December our great nation celebrates its 50th anniversary – a moment to reflect and be thankful for all the opportunities the UAE has offered each and every one of us. Could there be any better excuse for a celebration?

With that in mind, the Over The Top issue embraces everything outlandish, idiosyncratic and, above all, beautiful. Prepare for head-to-toe sequins in all their unashamedly high-octane glory. Then there’s a heady clash of two of my favourite hues, orange and red. And in beauty, we make a case for hair extensions – possibly the most OTT statement of all. Moreover, turn to Night Tales where we take Miu Miu’s latest party collection for a stylish spin in the streets of Paris. And in Light Years Ahead extravagant high jewellery is surrounded by frothy dresses and girly hues – the most natural habitat for haute jewels, if you ask me.

The December/January issue of MOJEH is on stands now

It’s no secret that I love an opportunity to get dressed up, and the spirited creations and dreamy narratives found on this season’s runways – in both ready-to-wear and couture – are a welcome escape from our recent descent into loungewear. But for those who aren’t quite ready to bid farewell to the laid back style that’s dominated 2021, turn to this issue’s The Mood where we suggest diamonds be worn with athleisure; a more subtle transition into what I hope will be a merrier year for all.

That said, we’re sending this issue to press as the devastating news breaks about the death of one of our generation’s greatest creatives, Virgil Abloh. As a fashion disruptor who rose to fame running his own street-inspired label Off-White before becoming the first Black man to helm a Louis Vuitton division as artistic director of menswear, Abloh raised the bar in more ways than one. “I feel like, what’s the point of design and art if you’re not creating and thinking freely? It’s the duty of artists to dream out loud in a productive way,” he once said – a sentiment that I will keep close to my heart.

It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year! I love the festive season and all that comes with it. Dressing up, cooler weather and season-long gift giving, I am looking forward to ringing in 2022 with a positive mindset paired with some Prada gloves. A sparkly bag is also an essential for the party season, as are some stunning jewels and a feathery frock.
