Oscars 2015: The Best in Beauty

1 min read

As the A-listers descended on the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, and took their turn down the crimson carpet, it could only mean one thing for beauty trend-spotters: who would win the Oscars’ hair and make-up crown? Starlets put their best face forward, with tried and tested looks being the favoured choice of the evening. But, as always, there were a few scene-stealers among the stars with fresh new looks to shake up proceedings.

Natural Beauties

With the SS15 catwalks awash with pared-back beauty, celebrities followed suit and let their natural selves revel in the red carpet extravaganza. Flawless skin and defined brows were sealed with subtle glossy lips that let the stars shine but kept all eyes drawn to the dress.

Femme Fatale

On the flip side, the eternally chic femme fatale look was seen on starlets who chose stunning dresses in simple shades that kept the cameras focused on their own beauty. Glowing skin was offset with statement lips while hair ranged from classic Veronica Lake-styled waves to sleek up-dos. Either way, these beauty looks were winners.

Girl Next Door

Some stars used their Girl Next Door charm to bring out a more subtle beauty, with radiant skin and pretty lip colours that enhanced rather than stole the limelight. Hair was also kept simple and showed off a healthy shine.

Statement Eyes

One classic red carpet look that reigned supreme was a neutral lip and strong eye, ranging from the oh-so-chic cats eyes to vampish smoky eyes. Whichever camp you fall into, follow the stars’ lead and wear your hair swept back off your face to avoid falling into grunge territory.

Some women simply refuse to fit into the fashion mould. Lupita Nyong’o, Solange and Lady Gaga are all known for pushing the boundaries of fashion and beauty, and this year’s Oscars event was no different, with their quirky beauty looks setting them apart from the rest of the red carpet crowd.
