The Weekend Edit: Fogo De Chão

Dubai’s latest Brazilian restaurant is not for the faint-hearted. Meat lovers commence…

For anyone not accustomed to traditional Brazilian cuisine, the rules are simple: meat and more meat. There are no frills and fancies. Simply good cuts, lightly seasoned and perhaps a side of black bean stew or polenta. Fogo de Chão offers just that, alongside epic views of Downtown Dubai. Think unlimited servings of picanha lightly seasoned with rock salt and delicately sliced, overlooking the Burj Khalifa by night. Brazil meets the Middle East in an eclectic collision of culture.

We attempted the Full Churrasco Experience: as much meat as you can stomach with side dishes, starters and desert aplenty. (Think evening style brunch with added sophistication). Start with a lentil soup and graze the light offerings from the market table, including fresh salads, antipasti and steamed vegetables. When it comes to ordering side dishes, don’t overload. The garlic mash and a selection of sauces will do just fine, (try the homemade hot sauce and horseradish).

The key is to leave room for copious servings of meat. True to Brazilian tradition, you’re handed a disc upon seating, green on one side and red on the other. Green means ‘meat please’ and red means ‘no more’. Servers come to your table with offerings of everything from grilled tenderloin and sirloin to honey-cured bacon wrapped steak. Chicken and seafood are also available for anyone who prefers a slightly lighter culinary journey.

MOJEH Recommends: In the right company, it’s possible to spend hours enjoying Fogo de Chão, so arrive early and prepare to leave late in to the night. Allow time between servings, take in the views and make an evening of it. In true Brazilian style, this is a restaurant made for socialising.
