Weekend Wardrobes: Accessory Focus

2 min read

Today we thought it best to focus on a staple accessory that women have been using for centuries. We are talking about the belt; also known as a sash, cummerbund and girdle. In each case this accessory is used to emphasise the waist and flatter the silhouette of the wearer by creating suitable proportions. A revival of gargantuan proportions is in the works and everyone from street style stars to red carpet celebrities have been seen sporting these waist cinching pieces.  Here on MOJEH.com we’re looking at the top three ways to wear belts with style.

Go Big

If you aren’t one to shy away from conventional codes of dress but like to keep it classy then opt for a tonal suit with matching belt. The combination of a single solid colour paired with a large belt that narrows the waist ever so demurely will flatter the wearer without appearing dated. The point here is to cinch the waist ever so slightly without constricting movement- we aren’t advocating the return of corseting in daywear!

Matching Hardware

Delicately corresponding the gold glint of your Petite Maille with the hard wear of your matching belt buckle is a must. This creates an illusion of synchrony through your look and adds a touch of playfulness to any outfit. Pair your favourite white denim jacket with a tan leather Roberto Cavalli belt, flats and a Chloé satchel. These fine details add a touch of inventiveness to your look.

Layer and Belt

Combine two of fashions favourite trends and what do you get? A recipe for the perfect weekend ensemble! Pair light cotton shirts and merino wool knits atop three quarter jersey dresses worn with Miu Miu ankle boots and a sleek conceptual waist belt. This look can work through the day to night wherever you go.
