If you are anything like us, then doing away with your summer wardrobe and investing in an entirely new set of autumnal style is a major no no. Obvious economical reasons ensue. But more importantly, the 21st century style maverick’s archive wardrobe is just as important as her new season pieces. It allows for lots of luscious layering, a meeting of colour codes (summer’s pastels melded with autumn’s earth tones), and a transitional wardrobe perfect for women moving between the desert’s overheated September and Europe’s cooler climes.

Summer’s soft and sheer boho style dresses can be just as important come September as they were in July. Etro’s patchwork pieces offer both light and dark hues at once. Simply add knee-high boots instead of sandals. 2018’s trend for transparent everything (shoes, bags, jewellery and now clothing), is a hero offering when transitioning your wardrobe. Louis Vuitton’s clear, monogram coat, for example, can be slipped over any outfit. Light, fresh, practical, and eschews heavy-looking layers.

The pros and cons of going transparent

Australian fashion house of the moment, Zimmermann, offers a jewel toned silk dress. For warmer days wear as a solo piece, (and mentally bank the look for next summer). Add an extra layer for cooler days. Tod’s leather trousers offer a touch of toughness. But if the dress-over-trouser trend isn’t for you, then a simple trench or a light fur cover up also work.
