Couture Week AW16: The Highlights

Karen Elson's modelling career began walking in Versace's last Couture collection in 1997, so it was only fitting that she return for the Atelier Versace show. This week’s runway presented Donatella’s most ladylike collection, which she crafted as an ode to female empowerment.
Gigi Hadid and her mile-high legs stole the show during Paris Fashion Week, however it was her sister, Bella, who became the shining star of Paris Haute Couture. Here, she glides down the Dior runway, sporting menacing cat eyes and a mesmerising jet-black gown.
Georges Hobeika’s model wears an elaborate wedding gown, with a fragile bodice and sheer sleeves, hand-sewn crystals and a theatrical veil cascading from her crown. It took four members of the Atelier staff to carry the veil and train onto the catwalk.
Historic fashion house Schiaparelli showcased their intricate and bold designs earlier on in the week. The luxe brand took inspiration from its own Circus collection of 1938. The result? A spectacular plethora of vintage rainbow colours and extravagant embroidery.
The most highly-anticipated look in any collection is usually the wedding gown, which closes the show. This year’s Chanel bride, British model Edie Campbell, closed the label’s Couture runway wearing a pink sequin coat with a fluffy collar and pink camellias woven into her hair.
Ralph and Russo’s Haute Couture collection’s flirty, floral and feminine, providing us with some cult accessories for the autumn season. A splendid show of red-carpet-ready gowns were partnered with glamorous wide-brimmed and embroidered hats.
Italian fashion designer Giambattista Valli’s signature dresses sashayed down the runway with enough multi-layered tulle to trip over. These bank-busting gowns boast overwhelming streams of luxe taffeta and plush plissé, much to the admiration of the star-studded front row.
As expected, Vetements tore up the rule book with a seasonless, wearable collection that was all about collaborations. The brand teamed up with 18 different labels, including Manolo Blahnik, Canada Goose, Levi's and more

As the week long Haute Couture frenzy comes to a close, MOJEH looks back at some of the highlights from the runway this season. The world’s flash pack, from A-list supermodels and fashion editors to Hollywood actors and socialites, have flocked to the French capital to get a scrumptious slice of Couture. But of course this industry highlight, as with all fashion weeks, is about more than the people; it’s about the clothes and their designers.
