And the award goes to…

The 81st Annual Golden Globes took place on Sunday night to celebrate achievements in film and television. 2023 is being dubbed by critics as the strongest year for cinema that we have seen in recent years, with blockbusters like Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and moving performances in Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon by Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone, respectively. Barbie only won two awards – one for Billie Eilish’s contribution to the soundtrack and the other a recognition of its $1.4 billion box office achievement – and is predicted to continue to be snubbed at future awards shows due to stiff, more serious competition, as the Globes are typically an indicator of how the remainder of the season will play out.
