Bulgari unveils its ‘most extraordinary high-end collection ever created’ in the Eternal City

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. In the case of Roman jeweller Bulgari, this entails filling a historical Roman site with breathtaking high-jewellery pieces in a showcase of heritage, innovation and craftsmanship.

In honour of 140 years of Bulgari, the Italian Maison unveiled its Aeterna high-jewellery collection at Terme di Diocleziano in Rome, Italy. A historic event, the celebration marked the first time the ancient, 3rd-century Roman baths have been opened to a brand – Terme di Diocleziano is the largest, best-preserved bath in ancient Rome.

Equally historic is the gem of Bulgari’s Aeterna collection, the Serpenti Aeterna necklace. The breathtaking piece is the most precious to be created in the House’s history, requiring over 2,400 hours of craftsmanship and totalling 140 carats – one for each year of Bulgari’s history. A rough diamond of over 200 carats was cut to create seven diamond drops which were then set in a platinum, three-dimensional wave structure and embellished with baguette diamonds.“The Serpenti Aeterna necklace is a tribute to Bulgari 140 anniversary – it is the most precious necklace we ever crafted,” shared Bulgari jewellery creative director Lucia Silvestri. “We wanted to create something unique in a Bulgari way, keep challenging ourselves and surprising everyone with the decision to give diamonds the role of the protagonist, while including it into the Serpenti family. A necklace that symbolises the eternity, as eternal is Bulgari and as Eternal as Rome, the city where it all started, and the ability of the brand to continuously keep reinventing itself.”

The Aeterna collection comprises 500 ultra-luxurious pieces – including high jewellery, high jewellery watches, bags and fragrances – and is a celebration of past, present and future, infusing innovative creations with the heritage and audaciousness for which the House is known.

After wandering the history-filled Terme di Diocleziano, guests – including brand ambassadors Anne Hathaway and Priyanka Chopra Jonas – were invited to see the jewels in action in a runway presentation, followed by a lavish gala dinner, live performance and celebrations well into the night.
