The fashion designer has outdone himself accessory-wise once again
Simon Porte Jacquemus has become famous for his oversized straw sun hats, which have been worn by everyone from Gigi Hadid to Emily Ratajkowski. Now, the designer has given us another oversized straw accessory. This time, though, it's in the form of a giant beach bag.
Available in straw and burnt orange and complete with fringing, the La Riviera bags can literally hold everything you need to permanently relocate to the beach for a few months. In fact, you could probably fit your entire summer wardrobe, your sunscreen, a few snacks, and still have room for the kitchen sink.
According to the designer, the inspiration for his massive straw bags came from his similarly supersized La Bomba hats that turned into an Instagram sensation. “I wanted to continue the idea of the straw, as the hats were everywhere,” he said. Of course, Jacquemus also included more functional, medium and macro sized versions of the bag in his collection in case oversized isn’t your thing.
Ironically, while the bags were enormous, the clothes were teeny-weeny and didn’t leave much to the imagination – ideal for beach vacations. “A fantasy of the Italian Riviera,” he called it in show notes, “like something I imagined a long time ago.” You can check out some of our favourite looks from the Jacquemus SS19 show in the gallery below.
