The pre-fall 2016 beauty mantra: the magic lies in the details.
By Aishwarya Tyagi
The transitional pre-fall season tends to veer away from traditional runway codes for a playful take on hair and makeup. Whether it’s the beautifully chaotic cluster of bobby pins at Maison Margiela, or Gucci’s refreshing alternative to no-makeup makeup, the season’s offerings left us with several clever beauty propositions to consider in the weeks ahead.
Chanel’s smudged glitter
Reimagining a ‘French girl in Rome’ and taking style cues from Brigette Bardot, Chanel opted for an overtly sexy look with a teased-at-the-crown hairstyle of the Sixties with a messy texture teamed with a smudgy morning-after smoky eye in dark glittery textures generously drawn over and under the eye.
Margiela’s pin panic
Maison Margiela’s dramatic bobby pin crosshatch on a simple slick of hair brings back the nostalgic hair accessory into the spotlight. Use a contrasting set of pins and create your own whimsical decoration to recreate this look.
Gucci’s au naturel graces
Gucci proves that no-makeup makeup does not have to be boring. For pre-fall Alessandro Michele takes his geek-chic avatar up a notch with clear dewy skin exuding freshness with earthy tones on the peaks of the face; with natural untouched hair falling freely as if pulled out of a Botticelli painting.
Dior’s drama
Rich plum lips in a velvet finish borders on rock chic with the brand’s omnipresent aristocratic sophistication. The bold colour pops when teamed with romantic bare skin and loose center parted hair.
