Ten Ways Fashion Week is Inspiring Our Work Wardrobe

3 min read

Over the past month, all eyes have been on fashion weeks — from Milan to Paris — with shows like Burberry, Prada and Dior offering plenty of looks to talk about. While off the catwalk, we found the street style looks worth a conversation, or two.

From office-appropriate one-pieces to sophisticated blouses and colourful boardroom blazers, the fashion pack have served us with a dose grown-up glamour — paving the way for some truly inspiring, ladylike looks. Draw inspiration from the polished, put-together ensembles and give your working wardrobe a chic update.

Jumpsuit, GUCCI

ONE-PIECE WONDER
Thanks to Gucci, office-appropriate one-pieces are here to stay. This navy blue version oozes glamour and sophistication while still having a retro feel.

Blazer, ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

COLOURFUL SUIT
Colour is back in a big way this season and it’s so refreshing to see. Boardroom black and grey is being replaced with a punchy colour palette of turquoise, teals, fuchsia and lavender – even marigold made an appearance. Just wear nothing underneath, if you dare.

Coat, REFORMATION

JACKETS UNDER JACKETS
We’ve witnessed a lot of layering over the past few weeks but the look that really stood out was jackets over jackets, more specifically fitted belted jackets worn under overcoats in similar tones. Who knew beige could be so interesting.

Turban, FLAPPER at MATCHES FASHION

TOP OFF WITH A TURBAN
Turbans are perfect for adding a playful and more modern edge to tailoring, and let’s not forget their ability to hide a bad hair day. Case in point, pictured.

Blouse, CHLOÉ

BALLOON SLEEVE BLOUSES
Sleeves are a big trend story for both spring/summer and autumn/winter – opt for a classic white balloon sleeve blouse and it will serve as a loyal pillar of your wardrobe from here on out.

Bag, BOTTEGA VENETA

THE BOTTEGA BAG
The BV Twist knotted intrecciato weave leather clutch is on its way to becoming one of the most coveted bags of the season. When the rest of your look is neutral – you can afford to make a statement with your bag choice.

Blouse, MIU MIU

SUPER-SIZED COLLAR
If last year was the year of the sleeve, then 2020 looks set to be the year of the collar. Large lace and vintage-inspired collars have been spotted in abundance – this Miu Miu version gets our vote.

Blouse, ALICE + OLIVIA

PUSSY BOW
Fashion’s nostalgic mood has also pioneered the return of the Pussy Bow blouse. Stick to a 70s inspired colour palette and team yours with everything from denim to heritage checks.

Cape, FENDI at MATCHES FASHION

HEROIC CAPES
Take your style cues from Olivia P when it comes to outerwear. Capes are making a comeback and what could more empowering that a cover-up that makes you feel like superwoman?!

Blazer, STELLA MCCARTNEY

ANYTHING BUT BEIGE
Is there anything more classic that top-to-toe camel? Channel these street style stars and opt for an all over caramel hue accented by dark aviators and an of-the-moment exaggerated collar.
