Ten Minutes With Taylor Hill

Hot on the heels of styling up a storm at this year’s fashion month, American model and MOJEH cover star Taylor Hill spills her secrets on the art of red carpet dressing

Who is your go-to designer for red carpet dressing?  I wind up falling in love with whatever designers my stylists Rob and Mariel pull for me. We’ve been working together for so many years now that I feel like they know me so well. Most recently I did the Alexander Vaulthier show and wore one of their looks on a carpet and loved it!

Tell us about your most memorable red carpet moment… The time Jim Carrey photobombed me, and I don’t think he even knew who I was! As for style, I loved my most recent Met Gala designer look by Miss Sohee. She is young and sustainable which I really like.

Who is your favourite couturier and why?  I would have to go with Miss Sohee!

Hair up or hair down? Both — I like mixing up my looks depending on the style and fit.

Diamonds or gemstones? Diamonds — they are classic and a girl’s best friend.

What’s in your event-season makeup bag?  Sam McKnight hair wipes — they are amazing, so easy to use and make your hair feel fresh in an instant; lip balm — I’m obsessed with Hourglass and Laneige’s lip sleeping mask; deodorant because life is so fast paced and I’m always on the run; and The Good Patch B12 patch which helps keep me energised on long days.

What’s the best facial that you’ve ever had before a red carpet event? I don’t really get facials but I love when a makeup artist preps my skin. They always seem to have the good stuff!

What trends are you leaning in to for the SS23 season? This season I think I’m really on trend as my staple style is a great pair of lived-in jeans, vintage T-shirts and an oversized jacket. I’m so excited grunge and the 90s are back in!

Any new or young designers that you’ve got your eyes on and why?  Not new, but right now I’m loving Nili Lotan, Khaite, Acne Studios and Isabel Marant.

What is your go-to outfit for off days? If I’m at home I enjoy an oversized sweat set, and for grabbing coffee or a day out with friends I usually gravitate towards my lived-in Levi’s, leggings with an oversized Acne sweater or Ralph Lauren hoodie with a big jacket.
