Following the tragic explosion in Beirut, French fashion house Chanel will donate over Dhs2.5 million ($700,000) to four frontline charities in Lebanon. The financial aid will be distributed between the Lebanese Red Cross, Amel Association, Acted and Unicef, in an effort to directly help those affected by the devastating blast that injured thousands and killed over 150 people.
“The catastrophic explosion in Beirut sent Lebanon, a country already impacted by political unrest, economic instability and the current Covid-19 crisis, into further distress and suffering,” Chanel announced in a statement, as the maison pledged to support the Arab nation. “Chanel has a local presence and valued long-standing partners in Lebanon, some of whom are deeply impacted.”
While brands across the around the world have created initiatives designed to raise for funds for Lebanon, and high profile figures including Amal and George Clooney, and Bella Hadid have donated to Lebanese charities, Chanel is one of the first major fashion houses to donate to the Beirut relief efforts.
