Couture Week AW16: Definitive Dresses

Who: Ulyana Sergeenko The Dress: Sergeenko serves us a dose of Sixties St. Petersburg in this standout, a-symmetrical, iridescent dress fit for the Russian royalty of-old.
Who: Giambattista Valli The Dress: Throngs of tulle in white, lavender and mauve thundered down the runway as we laid eyes upon the Italian designer’s signature dresses.
Who: Versace Atelier The Dress: The brand’s characteristic, sensual appeal paired with a 1950s palette in what Donatella describes as one of her most ladylike collections to-date.
Who: Ralph and Russo The Dress: A voluptuous and undeniably feminine and fairytale-esque gown. This caped creation featured the dusky lilacs and winter florals that have appeared prevalently for FW.
Who: Schiaparelli The Dress: Part of a collection that revisits the brand’s iconic, Thirties ‘Circus’ show, an astrological phoenix rises out of the center of the dress.

There is a sense of transition at couture week this season. From the off-schedule Vetements show held in the Galleries La Fayette department store to a director-less Dior. Thankfully, there is one residing feature that remains the same – the quest for the most elaborate and intricate gown. Here, we share our five favourites from days one and two.
