Transforming a nine-to-five ensemble into an outfit appropriate for date night or an evening painting the town red is more complicated than ditching flats for heels or swapping that nude lipstick for scarlet. Or, rather, it used to be. If we have learned anything from the street style set at New York Fashion Week it is that business-appropriate attire is no longer restricted to the boardroom.

 

New York streets were bustling with blazers, tailored trousers and blouses, reiterating that power dressing is well and truly back after a holiday of day dresses (and daydreams). Black and white was the predominant colour palette, with monochrome looks allowing tailoring to do all the talking. Meeting on Monday?
