To understand the inspiration behind the design of the Celine Triomphe bag, one of the house’s most popular signature styles, we must go back to the day in 1972 when founder Céline Vipiana’s car broke down on the Place De L’Etoile in Paris. Upon gazing up at the commanding Arc de Triomphe, her attention was immediately drawn to the chain surrounding the monument, and she instantly adopted the inside of the double links that represented two Cs as the brand’s emblem, using it to adorn bags, shoes, ready to wear and accessories.

Fast forward to 2018 and all eyes were on Hedi Slimane’s first collection for Celine at Paris Fashion Week, where the designer put his own personal spin on the Triomphe line, featuring strongly shaped bags defined by sharp lines and embellished with the same metal closure. No stranger to a hit handbag, Slimane quickly catapulted the cross-body purse, which is regularly seen slung over the shoulders of the likes of Kaia Gerber, Karlie Kloss and Selena Gomez, back into the limelight. It quickly became a staple in the wardrobes of the world’s most sleek and stylish, the bag’s strengths being its structural design and chic appearance.
