Celine’s Autumn 2021 ready-to-wear collection is all about laid-back lines, easy elegance and a generous dose of attitude

There is something to be said for a brand’s ability to adapt to consumers’ needs – or rather, wants – while remaining true to its ethos. A perfect example of this is Hedi Slimane’s Autumn 2021 offerings for the newly-revamped but still oh-so chic Celine. The ready-to-wear collection, titled Les Grands Classiques Session 3, boasts the effortlessly cool French-girl flair we have come to know and love from the House, with a dash of Gen-Z attitude, a pinch of spectacular suiting and a dollop of feminine silhouettes.

Celine’s signature styles take pride of place – think oversized blazers, timeless tweed jackets with glistening buttons and modern-day suiting to swoon over – although autumn 2021 has a decidedly younger feel. From graphic tees to collegiate sweatshirts, flared boyfriend jeans to sports bras, Slimane appeals to younger generations with a host of approachable, easy-to-wear pieces. The neutral palette ensures Celine’s autumn offerings can be worn for cooler climes and beyond, allowing for maximum versatility and wearability; longevity has become a new buzzword in the eco-conscious world.

The collection’s Gen-Z focus is reiterated with autumn’s accessory line-up of boots, bags and bucket hats; the former come in both the sleek ankle variety and no-nonsense lace-up worker boots. Of course, what would a 2021 collection be without sneakers? Box-fresh, bright-white sets reign supreme. The most buzzed about accessory of the collection, though, is the Teen 16 Soft. A fresh addition to the 16 collection, the Teen 16 Soft is a cross-body satchel, elevated with touches of gold. Elsewhere, casual confidence is key with monogrammed canvas totes and the 90s-inspired Ava; complete the look with stacks (and stacks) of Celine jewellery because, well, why not? Rounding out the accessories are statement sunnies, a trio of bucket hats – available in black denim, leopard print and checked wool – and Celine’s signature baseball cap which, thankfully, is now available in even more colourways.
