Former Celine Creative Director Phoebe Philo is returning to fashion after a three-year break from the industry

Phoebe Philo has announced she will return to fashion with an eponymous label. Philo took a three-year hiatus from the industry after a five-year stint at Chloé and a ten-year tenure at Celine, where she became a well-respected innovator, defining dressing as a modern-day woman and inspiring many who have come after. Her departure shocked the industry, even leading to fan-led (and editor-approved) Instagram accounts reminiscing over the “Old Céline”.

The upcoming label will be backed by French luxury conglomerate LVMH, as was the case with Celine, and will likely be based in the designer’s home town of London. The news was announced via Business of Fashion saying, “I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere…to be independent, to govern and experiment on my own terms is hugely significant to me.”

Philo’s eponymous label will comprise “clothing and accessories rooted in exceptional quality and design” and will release more details in January 2022.
