Life In Lockdown Through A Celine Lens

Debuting last September, Portrait of a Performer was the vision of Celine’s artistic director Hedi Slimane – a series of black and white portraits of up-and-coming musical talent, all wearing the latest Celine collection, shot by the acclaimed French designer himself.

Closely connected to the in-store Celine Art Project, the premise was to showcase the work of inspiring and freedom-loving artists, through the eyes of the maison, soundtracked with an accompanying Spotify playlist.

Fast-forward six months, and the project took an unplanned, but necessary turn. As quarantines unfolded across the globe, the venture grew to become Portrait of a Performer/of an Artist – a series of videos taken by a new group of creatives, inviting the house’s Instagram followers a glimpse into the daily lives of both recent and existing Celine collaborators during their Covid-19 confinement.

Including legendary rock icon Joan Jett, Glasgow band Lucia and the Best Boys, Temples frontman James Bagshaw, Paris band Oracle Sisters, artists Shawn Kuruneru and Carlos Valencia, and most recently, Beijing-based artist Hu Xiayuan, the short, IGTV videos make for fascinating viewing.
