A Day In The Life Of Interior Designer Yasmin Farahmandy

Yasmin Farahmandy, the award-winning interior designer and founder of YDesign Interior talks us through her morning-to-night routine…

I love waking up…before the sun rises and starting my day with a cup of coffee and some quiet time. Whether it’s going for a run, doing some yoga or meditating, I always feel like I have a head start on the day when I’m up early. Plus, I have plenty of time to take care of any to-dos before the rest of the world wakes up.

My morning routine consists of…alternating weight training at Ultimate Performance and walks around Downtown Boulevard to get my 10k steps per day. On weekends I’ll do hot yoga. Then I shower, blow dry my hair, do my makeup and get dressed for the day.

I’m responsible for…creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also functional and comfortable for my clients. From selecting colours, furniture and décor to overseeing renovations and installations, I take care of every detail to ensure that the client is happy.

My typical day…is never boring. I start by responding to urgent emails then spend time researching new design trends and meeting with clients before working on their design concepts. I’ll also need to coordinate with contractors and vendors, go onsite visits and, of course, answer any questions that arise from my clients.

My go-to working wardrobe consists of…black and white staples — I’m rarely in colour. I’m really inspired by Parisian style and I love statement accessories like oversized earrings.

When it comes to beauty, I’m a big fan of…Dior! I love the beauty line as much as its RTW. My favourite product is the Dior Prestige La Crème which I use every day, and Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation, Dior Rouge blush and Dior Forever bronzer.

For lunch I eat…on the go! If I do get a chance fora proper lunch, I go for a business lunch at Le Petit Maison, Avli or Zuma — I love French, Greek and Japanese food.

What I love most about my job is…the endless possibilities. With interior design there are always new trends and ideas, which leaves plenty of room for exploration and experimentation. I also love the fact I get to express myself through colours, fabrics and pieces of furniture, while having the potential to improve someone’s daily routine, enhance their well-being, or even just bring a smile to their face.

And what I enjoy the least is…dealing with tight deadlines — sometimes there simply aren’t enough hours in the day!

When I get home I…go for a walk, watch TV (currently it’s Succession) or read a book, and then push myself to sleep early. If I decide to catch up with friends, we’ll head to DIFC for dinner.

I couldn’t live without…my loved ones, music and my morning coffee.

When I feel stressed I…talk to someone, go for a walk or just eat some chocolate. Once I’m stressed you can’t keep me away from it!

If I wasn’t in my current position I would be…a chef. Cooking isn’t just a hobby to me; it’s a way of life.
