Brighten the cloudy, grey skies of winter with bold shadows and glitter galore

Pastel lashes? Check. Pigmented lids? Check. Glitter, gold dust and futuristic metallics? Check, check, check. The runways were made with party people in mind this season, with plenty of brands shaking off the shackles of a smoky eye and embracing a brighter, bolder look. Dubai makeup guru Vimi Joshi tells MOJEH: “It’s a time to be playful and experimental. Bright eye makeup allows you to recreate yourself with every event you attend, and you can match your makeup to your outfits too. I love experimenting with different textures like glitter, gloss, metallics and crystals.”

First came Prada, who presented both pastel and bold blue lashes in Milan courtesy of inimitable makeup artist Pat McGrath while, over at Victoria Beckham, pretty candy-coloured hues made for a cheerful lower lash line. From then on there was no escaping it — think a monochrome lavender lid at Richard Quinn, a yellow flick at Carolina Herrera and acid green hues at Diesel, designers fully embraced a playful makeup look that is most certainly not for wallflowers. “Bright bold colours like magenta, turquoise, purple, reds and even yellows are particularly popular right now,” adds Vimi. “Silver and gold in metallic shades, too.”

If you’re feeling brave, take the trend one step further and channel Giambattista Valli, where models’ eyelids looked like jewels decorated with coloured foil resembling mosaics. You can get a more toned-down version of the look at home with simple metallic shadows or more playful face gems. Shop MOJEH‘s recommended beauty buys below.
