Beauty Focus: The Top Knot

Tap into geisha-style elegance with a double-faceted top knot. Start by tying hair into a high ponytail. Divide the ponytail in half and wrap one half around the handle of a hairbrush to create a high loop. Use the second half of the ponytail to wrap around the base of the loop and secure with hair pins and a firm hold spray.
Try a deconstructed top knot for a softer look. Comb hair back loosely into a high ponytail and pull out a partition of hair at the front. Secure ponytail into a messy top knot and use a straightening iron to add a slight kink to the loose hair at the front.
For a look that's both modern and elegant opt for a sleeker finish. Start by running styling cream through damp hair before blowdrying. Run over with a straightening iron and brush up into a ponytail. Smooth the sides with a lightweight gel and then loop and tuck the hair up before securing with pins at the base. Finish with a hairband or mini veil.
To make more of a statement look to Rihanna's voluminous top knot, tie a ponytail at the very top of the head and neatly wrap the hair around it. This looks works especially well with hairstyles cut with a front or side fringe
