We sit down with the Danish designer to discuss her style, inspirations, and why she’s so excited to finally bring her brand to Dubai

Sophie Bille Brahe jewellery is loved for its elegant aesthetic with an avant-garde twist, and the brand is the latest to join the Aubade family. We sit down with the Danish designer to discuss her style, inspirations, and why she’s so excited to finally bring her brand to Dubai
How would you describe the Sophie Bille Brahe aesthetic?

Classic with a modern twist. Even though I don’t see myself as a Scandinavian designer, it’s still very clean, and all about making sure the diamond really stands out.

Who is the Sophie Bille Brahe woman?

I once would have said she is quite understated, but not anymore. I think the women who buy my jewellery are secure in their own taste. They really know what they like and how they want to wear things.

What attracted you to Aubade and its incredible founder Duha Al Ramadhan?

I feel we have very similar aesthetics, so we complement each other very well. The store is beautiful too, of course, and Duha has a wonderful personality — she’s completely charming but in a very gentle way.

How did you decide which pieces you wanted to bring to the Middle East?

I went for the pieces I felt really represented me, and the styles that I personally want to wear. They are my favourite pieces from my Classic Collection.

Sophie Bille Brahe aside, which brands from the Aubade edit interest you most and why?

I’d have to go with Fernando Jorge. We started up at the same time and I really love his aesthetic, even though it’s the complete opposite of mine.

How would you describe your personal style?

Relaxed. I use my hands a lot in my work, so it’s important that my clothing doesn’t get in the way. I also want to feel comfortable, which might mean cashmere in winter or a simple dress for summer. I obviously never buy my own jewellery, but I do love investing in shoes and bags.

What has been your go-to look during your visit to Dubai?

I’ve been switching between a Prada denim dress and a few Cecilie Bahnsen styles — they look so perfect and wonderful, but you feel so comfortable in them too.

Where is your happy place?

I live in Denmark, by the seaside just outside Copenhagen. There are these bridges in the sea and in the summer you can swim in the water and lay out on them afterwards. That’s where I go all year round, even in the winter. The cold really clears my mind — and I’ve even got my son to come along now too!

What couldn’t you live without?

My kids and my border collie. Also, my Ocean ring. I never get jewellery from anyone, but my husband surprised me with this when our daughter was born.

Where do you go for inspiration?

I take a long walk in the forest with my dog before heading to the water. I always do something beautiful afterwards as my mind is clear, such as go to a museum. It helps me to gather my thoughts and inspires future collections at the same time.

How do you relax after a long day in the studio?

I cook with my kids. And in the summertime, we go swimming and eat a pizza at the beach.

What’s next for Sophie Bille Brahe?

I’m launching a bridal collection soon with traceable diamonds from Canada which I’m really looking forward to — I think it’s so important. We’ve been working on the collection for a long time so I can’t wait to see it come to fruition. Sophie Bille Brahe is available at Aubade, Dubai Mall
