From tartan and houndstooth to Prince of Wales, this season’s most popular print checks all the right boxes
Plaid for autumn? Groundbreaking, we know. However it’s official – the check trend is in full swing this autumn/winter season, and comes splashed across dresses, suits, trench coats, accessories and everything in between.
With a rich history that goes back beyond Scottish Highlander kilts, plaid might be a heritage pattern, but it still feels very now, and the most popular way to wear your squares for A/W20 is to clash them.
Case in point? At Burberry, tights, skirts, coats, and headscarves in jubilant house checks were worn altogether in one look, that was absolutely spell-binding.
Elsewhere at Gucci, we saw tartan maxi-skirts teamed with Victorian lace blouses while at Victoria Beckham, large plaid prints were emblazoned across a few dresses and skirt suits made of what appeared to be reconstructed lumberjack shirts.
We've fallen hard for the entire Tibi collection, which was an excitingly unique yet professional combination of light and dark blue plaid dress for the more feminine types, as well as a half-and-half in plaid for an ‘80s menswear vibes – great for any occasion.
Add to that looks spotted at Versace, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, Celine, and many more, it’s fair to say this is most definitely the print of the season.
