How To Wear: Sublime Suiting

2 min read

Suits have moved on from their corporate past and become the go-to two-piece for the party season. Thanks to brands like Racil and Saint Laurent, luxury fabrics and on point tailoring, power suits have been given new meaning for AW19.

From gold and silver lame to luxury velvets and embellished details, here are five trends to take note of when buying an office-to-party suit, or just a party suit. And for inspiration on how to wear them now, look to the street style set.

Wear white with white for sleek, modern look

ALL WHITE: A suit with a shorter sleeve instantly feels more modern. We also love how this fashion week guest has added a point of difference and a playful edge with the coordinating tassel belt. The bench mark has been set high here.

Opt for head-to-toe leather like this street goer

LEATHER ON LEATHER: A leather suit just oozes decadence. This burnt orange pairing would work equally well by day with white shirt, as it would for sundowners with delicate heels and statement jewels – as seen on this guest outside the Chanel show during PFW.

Fashion-savvy fuchsia pink adds a punch to timeless tailoring

COLOUR CRUSH: Natalia Vodianova gave the ultimate lesson in how to wear bold colour when she stepped out in this fuchsia ensemble. The modest white shirt, the cool black box clutch and shoes, and the chunky chain necklace all work together in sartorial harmony.

Nothing says party season like a sequin adorned suit

HIGH SHINE: Outside the Elie Saab show at PFW Gabrielle Caunesil Pozzoli proved a vision in green sequins. The wow-factor of the suit, the contrasting lapels, the nod to nonchalance with the flat shoes, a little French je ne sais quoi courtesy of the beret – it is a winning combination.

Karolina Kurkova looks elegant in a palette of chic caramel

SEVENTIES SILK: A silk or satin suit is the perfect nod to this season’s 70s tendencies. Go tonal and dress top-to-toe in variations of one colour palette. Pop a simple tee underneath for an office-appropriate look, and swap it for a minimalist necklace after hours – as demonstrated by Karolina Kurkova.
