Rihanna launches new fashion range

World-renowned singer Rihanna has joined forces once again with luxury fashion juggernaut the LVMH Group, this time to launch her namesake fashion brand, which drops later this month. It’s a groundbreaking moment for the fashion industry, as Rihanna is the first woman to create an original brand at LVMH, the first woman of colour to head up an LVMH brand, and Fenty will also be the first new Maison created by the group since Christian Lacroix in 1987.

It is also the first time LMVH has collaborated with a celebrity to create a fashion brand from the ground-up, rather than hiring a ‘face’ to endorse an existing label. Having previously launched Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty, her lingerie line, Rihanna’s new luxury fashion launch cements her seat at the top table of hugely influential designers and proves the power of her popularity.

“Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us. Mr. [Bernard] Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits,” Rihanna said in a statement thanking LVMH’s Chairman and Chief Executive, Bernard Arnault. “I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”

The 31-year-old Bajan singer also took to social media to give thanks to Mr Arnault, taking the opportunity to reveal the much-anticipated Fenty logo to her fans.

Rihanna also paid tribute to her humble upbringing saying, “Thank you for believing in this little girl from the left side of the island. This is proof that nothing is impossible.” With over 70.5 million followers on Instagram, Rihanna’s influence is immeasurable, amassing a following that celebrates generational, racial and cultural diversity.

With a natural ability to cross fashion divides, blending streetwear with couture and high tops with ballgowns, the industry keenly waits to see what Rihanna’s revolutionary offering will be through Fenty. With her first collection due to drop later this summer, the wait is almost over.
