As the latest face of Weekend Max Mara’s Signature capsule collection, Sofia Richie is evoking dreams of an eclectic summer season. MOJEH speaks to the young star
The perfect embodiment of a young Hollywood cool-girl, once famous sibling and now overnight style icon, Sofia Richie is a bright light on fashion's radar. After all, as the daughter of music legend Lionel Richie and sister to fashion designer Nicole Richie – who she cites as one of her biggest inspirations – it’s no surprise the fashion industry’s biggest names are climbing over themselves to get a piece of the 22-year-old this season. “I always look up to my sister in the fashion world,” Sofia tells MOJEH. “It was only right for me to have her intro me into it,” speaking of her first ever job at Teen Vogue, which was set up by Nicole.
Now, the American model has been announced as the face of the latest Weekend Max Mara Signature capsule collection, Flutterflies, in which she comes drenched in a vibrant palette and lively prints, alongside plenty of colourful motifs that pay homage to the brand’s favourite symbol, the butterfly. A testament to the creativity of the man behind the designs – American illustrator and Pop artist Donald Robertson – witty, vivid art and cartoonish character compositions light up the collection on everything from dresses and pencil skirts to sneakers and flowy summer pants, which happen to be Sofia’s favourite piece from the collection: “I could see myself wearing those on a summer day,” she says.
With another long, hot summer fast approaching and 'longevity' the fashion buzzword du jour, the capsule’s classic cuts and timeless prints are a must. “I personally don’t ever intentionally follow trends, I just try and do what feels good to me when it comes to fashion,” Sofia says.
