Cruise season is in full swing, and last night Louis Vuitton presented its 2019 collection at the Fondation Marguerite and Aimé Maeght in the South of France. After Monaco, the Bob & Dolores Hope estate in Palm Springs, the Mac Niteroi in Brazil and the Miho Museum in Japan, Nicolas Ghesquière - who renewed his contract with the french Maison just last week - continues his design journey by presenting the next runway collection to editors, buyers and celebrities in a show set-up which reflects the artistic essence of the designer and brand. The Fondation Maeght was designed by Josep Lluis Sert and is intrinsically connected to Louis Vuitton’s commitment to the Arts. “I’ve known this place for twenty-five years and I love coming here regularly. It has a beautiful family history, a particular story about passionate gallerists who, along with all the artists for whom they were both friends and patrons, invented an extraordinary place for artistic dialogue. You can see in these enduring works all their complicity and artistic flow. It’s an intelligent, beautiful site. A place that has spirit, installations have a special rapport with nature and the seasons,” said Nicolas Ghesquière prior to the show. The Cruise 2019 collection reflects the bright originality of Aimé Maeght. "The man who, as Belgian artist Pierre Alechinsky said: 'made dreams a reality,'" - read the show notes. Stunning dresses, intricately embelished dresses and a power palette brought the foundation to life. An epic feat for Louis Vuitton. French artist Woodkid composed the soundtrack, in which actress Jennifer Connelly reads extracts from the biography of Grace Coddington (whom also collaborated with Ghesquière on the collection).
