No one does timeless fashion quite like Hermès. With perennial style more relevant than ever, in our new post-pandemic world, the heritage house’s SS21 collection offered a welcome wardrobe cleanse and revealed an array of minimalist pieces to last a lifetime. Staged in front of a select audience at the Tennis Club de France (and streamed across the globe), models weaved between columns — decorated in mirrors, enlarged photographs and collaged artworks — wearing put-together separates and lightweight coats in a pared-back palette of black, white, buttermilk and nude.
Punctuated with hints of pale blue, Hermès orange and scarlet red, the SS21 collection was also sprinkled with subtle embellishments in the form of industrial zips and leather chain-mail worn over dresses to create Nadège Vanhée-Cybulski’s take on “summer armour.” A focus on texture ran throughout the spring/summer line-up with smooth leather, soft suede and cut-out silhouettes that caressed the skin; emphasising a missed sense of touch in socially distant society. Pairing looks with two new covetable carriers (the Perspective Cavalière and the Mors de Brides), and chic clogs that proved anything but clunky, Vanhée-Cybulski made a case for beautiful clothes that can called be called season after season.
