The best headpieces ruling the AW18 Haute Couture runways

MOJEH goes backstage at Valentino, Dior and more during Haute Couture Fashion Week. See why it was the Headpieces ruling the AW18 runways

Haute Couture has always been nothing less than extravagant, escapist and at times ostentatious. This season is no different. Gowns are dream-like and all-enveloping and embellishment is unequivocal quixotic to say the least. But backstage, it was the haute Couture headpieces which really turned heads. Perhaps an aftereffect of Pierpaolo Piccioli's mighty and engulfing hats worn by the likes of models Kaia Gerber and Polina Pototskaja on Valentino's Spring-Summer18 runway? Or maybe a step-up from the Autumn-Winter18 focus on head gear at the likes of Gucci? Either way, we're listening. Functional came in the form of Christian Dior's netted berets (spider-web style dishevelment inclusive), and Alexandre Vauthier's boater hats. Un-functional but achingly beautiful came by the way of Armani Prive's tulle, bow-style pieces in bright hues. And, of course, Valentino's army of metallic, helmet-shaped pieces alongside the more flamboyant and maxi floral numbers (miniature flower gardens some might say). The take home? Whether investing in wedding worthy collections or pieces for winter's event season, strength comes in more ways than one.
