Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2019: The Celebrities, The Looks And The "New Chanel"

Jan 23, 2019 | 3 min read

Everything you need to know about Chanel's latest Haute Couture offering

Karl Lagerfeld just brought the Mediterranean to a snowy Paris, and it looked like this...

“It’s a serene, ideal, timeless collection, that’s absolutely now, with new shapes”, said Karl Lagerfeld. His Chanel Haute Couture spring-summer 2019 collection is an eloquent offering of daywear, evening-wear and just about everything-wear. We're talking svelte and sublime tweed two-pieces, easily appropriate for most occasions.

A palette of dusky hues moves from sherbet blue, barely-there pink and oatmeal cream. Shouldered jackets feature boat necklines while others have folded lapels instead of collars. The Chanel braiding is embroidered into the tweed and feathers and florals accent most pieces; even then, pieces feel holistic instead of fussy, amplifying the finesse of what Lagerfeld is calling 'the new Chanel'.

And then comes the gowns... Worn by the likes of Nora Attal, Birgit Kos and Kaia Gerber, ankle grazing looks take on sentiments of the Mediterranean (reflected in the sprawling show set-up); larger-than-life lace, regal prints and a wash of the richest of blues. Whether in a frothy and over-sized silhouette or completely pared back, everything feels cemented in the craft and prowess of Haute couture, but with the wearability of ready-to-wear.

Celebrity guests included Kristen Stewart, Marion Cotillard and Tilda Swinton. Peruse the gallery for all the moments.
