“Like moonlight … a light taken straight from a Danish summer’s night. When covered by dew, silver can look like magical mist,” Georg Jensen’s undying words reflect on his passion and devotion to the craft of silverware designing.

Brimming with clean and timeless designs, ranging from homeware to jewellery and cutlery- an all-encompassing variety- is a natural step for a brand with a time-honoured tradition of working in silver, marrying all that precious metal with more modern elements. Georg Jensen is creating a pretty exciting fusion of fresh ideas intertwined with core historical values.

As we enter the brand new store in the bustling neightbourhood of Jumeirah, we notice the luxurious yet homely and grounded interior of the flagship- exuding the essence the brand – lavish in a non intimidating manner. The store is divided into women’s jewellery, men’s section and a homeware section, meticulously curated to showcase the many collaborations between the brand and artists from around the world.

The Copenhagen based representatives of the brand share anectodes from the designer’s long and celebrated career. “He was educated as a sculpture artist, and was at his time, was one of the biggest silversmiths” says the PR representative. The 110 year old brand has seen fascinating things over the years, which has beautifully representated in the book that we keep referring to in our rendezvous, Georg Jensen’s Reflections – an illustrated account of new and archival images, offering something different from previous historical reference guides: It’s a study of Georg Jensen — the man and, even more so, the enterprise — not as a purveyor of objects, but instead as an idea.

Jewellery should enhance and move with the body so that it blends with you. It must not overwhelm, but enhance you.
Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe

A small team of 30 silversmiths only, are responsible for every piece of hollow ware we see in the store. One of the silversmiths from the atelier, Catherine, has rich knowledge of every process of “hammering” and “polishing” of silverware and precious metals, and shares the creative mechanism of hand sculpting the brand’s iconic “Acorn” flatware. She also is full of historic trivia and shares stories of collaborations with Georg Jensen’s favouirte jewellery designer Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe who created the brand’s bestselling “Vivianna” collection filled with revolutionary design techniques adapted in the Sixties that still seem fresh and modern including the “dew-drop” design and “bracelet watch”.
