It has been seven years since Chanel has shown a collection in Dubai and the House will make its return this year to show the Cruise 2021/22 collection. The show is scheduled to take place on 2 November 2021 but the location is yet to be disclosed.
Originally planned to show in Capri, Italy, the Cruise 2021/22 collection debuted virtually due to the pandemic - many designers were forced to adopt new methods due to movement restrictions - from the limestone quarries of the Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence in the south of France. Rebellion is the name of the game for Cruise 2021/2022, with black tweed, leather fringing, graphic prints and acid-wash denim reigning supreme. Virginie Viard was inspired by 1959 film Le Testament d’Orphée, directed by and starring artist-poet Jean Cocteau, who was a close friend of Gabrielle Chanel; the founder was the first designer to create a cruise collection, releasing the first in 1910 for clients that holidayed in warmer climes in the winter season.
The House last visited Dubai in May 2014 to unveil its Arabian Nights-themed Cruise 2014/2015 collection with Lindsey Wixson, Binx Walton, Joan Smalls and Soo Joo Park taking to the runway.
Having shown collections in Singapore, Saint-Tropez, Havana and Hong Kong, MOJEH can't wait to see what Chanel has in store for the emirate come November.
