Timeless glamour or frivolous fun? MOJEH asks Amy Sessions what she’ll be wearing throughout the festive season

If you spot a glamorous blonde wearing an impeccably cut tuxedo at one of Dubai’s hottest parties this season, chances are you’re admiring the effortlessly elegant Amy Sessions.

“If I was only allowed to wear one party look for the rest of my life, it would be a tuxedo,” says the 36-year-old head of content and strategy at luxury e-tailer, The List.

“Saint Laurent’s classic Le Smoking is a look I’ve loved for as long as I can remember, and a black tuxedo is my style signature. I have a number of variations, from a tuxedo jumpsuit to a velvet two-piece with classic silk lapels. It’s a lifetime investment purchase, and I’d love to have one tailored bespoke one day.”

Citing the perfectly balanced masculine/feminine aesthetic of Givenchy’s creative director, Claire Waight-Keller, as her style inspiration, and favouring the classic designs of Tom Ford, Mark Cross and Anthony Vaccarello, Amy’s most recent investments include pieces from Alexandre Vauthier, Alessandra Rich, and fashion’s current golden boy, Daniel Lee for Bottega Veneta.

“I have a preference for tailoring in a minimal colour palette, and love this season’s nod to the ’80s with strong-shouldered, sharp suiting for after dark,” says Amy, for whom accessories are key to her party look.

“I tend to invest in accessories over ready-to-wear. One of the first designer bags I ever bought was a clutch from Saint Laurent, which is so special to me, and one of my after dark staples. I also have a micro Mark Cross which is totally impractical for day, but perfect for party season. And I love a single-sole sandal from Gianvito Rossi or Tom Ford – it has to be heels for me at night. This season, my favourites are in velvet, which always makes me feel super-festive.”

As far as offering expert advice on what it takes to look amazing at every soiree in your diary, Amy’s take is to never try too hard. “Modern party dressing is all about feeling relaxed,” she smiles.

“It’s important to respect a dress code for something formal, but outside of that, wear something that feels like you. Just never wear sneakers on the red carpet – unless it’s your red carpet, of course."

When it comes to beauty, Amy champions natural and sexy over statement and showy. “I prefer an optimised day look for night, rather than an entirely new make-up. I’ll add a smoky eye and a stronger brow, but I don’t try a completely different look.”
