The first Monday in May is upon us. For some, it is merely another Monday where emails flood inboxes and to-do lists are scattered across desks. For the fashion world, however, the first Monday in May is the calendar event of the year. The Met Gala is a celebrity-studded event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on the first Monday in May to benefit the Costume Institute. It is an extravagant affair that marks the opening of an annual fashion exhibition. Either designers splash the cash - the cost of a table is reportedly upwards of $300,000 - and invite ambassadors to represent their Maisons or guests are invited by Anna Wintour herself and fork out a cool $50,000 to attend.
Many famous faces have graced the iconic red carpet although the guest list remains a secret until the big day. Or, rather, it did before the age of the internet. Celebrities have dropped subtle (and not-so-subtle) clues over the past month about whether they will or will not be attending the event. Definitely attending are Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer and Penélope Cruz, all of whom are serving as co-chairs alongside Anna Wintour, Tom Ford and Adam Mosseri.
Other rumoured appearances include Met Gala frequenters Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Billie Eilish, Rihanna, Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber as well as newcomer Paris Hilton. In addition, MOJEH predicts plenty of Chanel ambassadors and friends of the House; the gala pays tribute to the life and legacy of the late designer who helmed Chanel since 1983 through an exhibition titled "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty." The official dress code is 'In Honour of Karl.'
Blake Lively is the only celebrity to confirm that she won't be attending. A firm favourite, Blake is responsible for some of the Met Gala's most viral ensembles.
