LFW SS18: The London Round Up

Anya Hindmarch: Anya Hindmarch took on British suburbia by working with retro prints, patterns and head-to-toe tonal looks. As always the result was playful, quirky and highly wearable.
Mary Katrantzou: Light and bright appeared to be the ethos at Mary Katrantzou where the young designer sought inspiration from the games and toys of her 80s childhood. The collection took on a sportier tone than usual due to the inclusion of parkas and athletic-style column dresses but there were still plenty of the beautiful voluminous dresses that have made Katrantzou a household name on offer.
Roksanda: Roksanda Ilincic is known for her architectural details and structure, however this season she opted for more languid, fluid silhouettes that conjured up visions of lazy summer days. Her loosely tailored suits epitomise smart and snappy summer dressing.
Emilia Wickstead: New Zealand-born and London-based designer Emilia Wickstead took a relaxed approach to spring/summer18 choosing to show off a bit more skin than usual. Her prim, ladylike silhouettes cut from beautifully sheer fabrics will cover all manner of soirees and events next year.
Christopher Kane: Talented Scottish designer Christopher Kane explored suburban eroticism for his spring collection. This idea materialised into modest ensembles slashed and cut to reveal hints of skin while sheer dresses showcased frilly underpinnings showcasing subdued sex appeal.
Erdem: The Queen of England, jazz music and 1950s Harlem came together to form the basis of Erdem Moralıoğlu's new season offerings. As random as it all sounds, Moralıoğlu connected the dots into a very elaborate narrative told by rich brocade prints, Prince of Wales checks and the dreamiest dresses and gowns.
David Koma: Koma's razor sharp cuts and tailoring segued into the athletic arena this season as he sent out track-style trousers, shorts and mini dresses in sporting reds, blues, blacks and monochrome stripes. Ruffle details worked to soften his silhouettes and added a contemporary spin resulting in pieces with far more polish than standard athleisure-style garb.
Joseph: Louise Trotter cited uniforms as the foundation of her latest collection for Joseph which was evident in the chambermaid-style dresses of varying lengths and the officer jackets cut into dresses, trenches and suits. With an array of colours and fabrics to choose from her pieces are sure to appeal to many women across the globe next summer.
Julien Macdonald: British designer Julien Macdonald knows his way around a party dress - the designer makes no secret of his love of the industry's It Girls and pretty young things which is inherently evident in his va-va-voom creations. This season he played with fringing, embellishment and cut out panelling resulting in dresses we're bound to see on the Kendall's, Kylie's and Bella's of the world.
Roland Mouret: Roland Mouret opted to loosen up the rigid lines he usually sticks to, opting for slouchier off-the-shoulder silhouettes in rich reds, lilacs and electric blues instead. The exacting cuts ensured his looks still exuded elegance and polish but in an uncontrived way.
Antonio Berardi: There was a soft romanticism to Antonio Berardi's spring/summer collection. Pastel hues were interspersed amongst Prince of Wales checks and strong pops of cherry red and black while softly pleated skirts and diaphanous dresses generated a sense of free-flowing movement.
Emporio Armani: Giorgio Armani took a trip to London to show his spring/summer18 collection which felt youthful and upbeat. Punchy pastels and pop art motifs appeared on everything from scoop neck tunics to super cute babydoll dresses and floaty skirts. His loosely tailored trousers and blazers are a must have for any woman on the go next summer.
Temperley London: Painting a pretty and nostalgic picture of Riviera chic, Alice Temperley did what she does best, sending out versatile, whimsical and wearable clothes for her loyal customer base. There were plenty of chic daywear options on offer, but it was the dramatic evening gowns brimming with romance that stole the show.
Peter Pilotto: Mixed mediums set the tone at Peter Pilotto - candy stripes, asymmetric checks and retro florals and paisleys echoed the Seventies, but the cuts and shapes on the runway were anything but nostalgic. Shirred slip dresses, sharp shirts and silky tracksuits in dreamy hues were spot on for a fuss-free summer wardrobe.
Halpern: Michael Halpern is a star on the rise. The young designer has had a stellar first year and shows no signs of slowing down. His sophomore show built on the Seventies vibes of his debut collection and was peppered with disco dresses, gowns and tailored trouser suits

This week the runways of London were awash with colour. Bold, unabashed block brights and equally vibrant prints were seen on almost every catwalk in the British capital which was a welcome show of resilience and much needed lift amidst Brexit uncertainty and the aftermath of yet another attempted act of terror in the city.
