NYFW: Here's What the Fashion Pack Have Been Wearing in the Big Apple

Feb 11, 2020 | 7 min read

From modest layering to sleek tailoring, here's what the street style set are showing off

With NYFW in full swing, buyers, editors and influencers are flocking to the streets of the city that never sleeps, to show off their fashion prowess

As temperatures floated around a cool 6 degrees, cover ups played an essential role in everyone’s wardrobe. But while some trends had an air of familiarity about them - they seemed to be a new season iterations of an old favourite - there were a couple of surprisingly fresh colour contenders angling for their position as most covetable. All in all, we’re feeling inspired about colour, layering and some more directional fashion choices.

THE UNLIKELY COLOUR

A BLANK CANVAS

Although opting for a mostly monochrome ensemble is considered classic and safe, these all white looks are also a very clever way of showing off new season silhouettes - as your attention is immediately drawn to the cut, shape and detail of the clothes rather than the colour. And never has a colour been more magnetic to coffee stains, so on a blustery day in any city, we’d say white is a bold choice.

THE MOOD SHIFT

While hotfooting around the autumn/winter 2020 shows it was clear fashion had embraced a new season mood. Floral dresses and romantic silhouettes were eschewed in favour of tailoring and layering, and pretty pastels swapped out for deeper vampish tones like red and burgundy.

THE REINTERPRETATION

While fashion editors and influencers alike were seen sporting various versions of the utility jumpsuit last year, this year and the season ahead is all about functional separates. Mixing sand and camel toned pieces creates a multi-layered look, while plenty of pockets pack a practical punch. Look to gold hardware for a touch of glamour.
