How To Wear Yellow, the Season’s Most Optimistic Shade

1 min read

Give your wardrobe and your mood a lift with a splash of yellow. From daffodil to sherbet lemon and vibrant marigold, this is the colour to be seen in this summer…

Its well know that clothes can affect our mood, and we’ve all dressed ourselves into the right frame of mind for a party or two. But have you ever dressed yourself happy? If not, this season’s infatuation with yellow could be the perfect time to give it a whirl. It is after all the colour of spring – which officially starts on March 19 – and it is also symbolic of positivity, energy and optimism.

As if you needed further persuasion, the streets of fashion week and all the fashion editors, buyers and influencers that walked them – were gleaming with sartorial inspiration. Yellow appeared in every which way imaginable.

As an accessory, it made for a joyful colour injection. When worn as the hero piece, yellow added a unabashedly summery feel to dresses and blazers, and when worn as part of a printed ensemble or in addition to other statement pieces, it was definitely a mood-lifter.

Over on the spring/summer 2020 catwalk designers made their own case for yellow. At Emilia Wickstead a simple and elegant ladylike dress was paraded in the palest of lemons. At Stella McCartney a buttery yellow culotte-suit gave us new workwear goals and at Carolina Herrera, Alberta Ferretti and Miu Miu it was added to a base of beige or white for a fresh and playful edge.

Here, we’ve rounded up the best pieces to shop for a look that radiates sunshine.
