Cate Blanchett Appears To Show Solidarity With Palestine On The Cannes Red Carpet

Cate Blanchett was in Cannes this week for the premiere of her latest film, Rumours, at the Cannes Film Festival. While the film garnered praise from critics, it is her actions at the premiere of The Apprentice that has the internet buzzing with speculation of a political statement.

The multi award-winning actress wore a Jean Paul Gaultier gown designed by Haider Ackermann, which, at first, appears to be two-toned.

However, once she took to the carpet, Blanchett subtly lifted her satin train to reveal a striking green lining. When photographed together with the gown’s black front, near-white light-pink back and the red carpet, the internet could not help but compare the colour combination with that of the Palestinian flag.

The Elizabeth actress has been outspoken about the ongoing acts of violence in Gaza. She recently addressed the European Parliament Plenary Session about the devastation and is one of over 60 actors that has signed the Artists4Ceasefire petition addressed to US President Joe Biden, which pleads for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
