They are the style staple you never knew your wardrobe needed

A 90s must have loved by the late Princess Diana, the bike shorts trend has been seen everywhere and on everyone this past summer. But thanks to Karl Lagerfeld (the man who once said “sweatpants are a sign of defeat”), it appears the trend is sticking around for SS19 as the designer sent models dressed not only in spandex shorts, but full-on leggings down the Chanel runway.

For the show, Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais (where he holds all Chanel Paris Fashion Week shows) into a beach, complete with lifeguards and a moving tide. Models walked barefoot, carrying their shoes in hand as they walked the sand-filled runway.

Despite the seaside location, there were still plenty of classic Chanel signatures like tweed and suiting, alongside a few surprises such as bike shorts and leggings in shades of black and even a deck chair and parasol print. They were styled with oversized blazers and matching sweaters.
