Balenciaga’s Archival It Bag Is Back With A Modern Makeover

Kate Moss fronts the new campaign

In a blast from a very stylish past, Balenciaga has reimagined one of its most popular It bags for the modern-day woman

It was back in 2001 when then-creative director of Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière, launched the Le City bag. A grungier, more masculine style of the It bags of the times, it came in an oversized shape complete with zip-top, dual top handles and signature hardware. Now, 24 years later, the iconic bag is making a triumphant return, with the Spanish fashion house relaunching it with a slight makeover.

An accessory that was once seen slung across the arms of everyone from Kate Moss and Sienna Miller to Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton, you’d be as likely to see a celebrity toting theirs to the gym as you would to a red-carpet soirée. It was loved for its spacious interior and pre-distressed leather, and in many ways it was seen as a symbol of rebellious luxury. Today’s iteration follows the same sentiment and, available in black, yellow, green, light purple, metallic steel grey, metallic silver, white, blue and beige colourways, is slightly toned down with less aggressive hardware, yet still crafted from the same patina leather.

To celebrate the launch, Balenciaga has also released a campaign photographed by Mario Sorrenti and featuring Kate Moss, Danish model Mona Tougaard, Chinese actor Yang Chaoyue and Korean singer Juyeon, while also asking fans including Rachel Sennott and Devon Lee Carlson to sport theirs while out and about. This is fashion nostalgia at its finest and we are most definitely here for it. Shop now
