Three Urban Adventures for the Weekend

1.5 min read

MOJEH.com brings you three events that will add a dose of art, gourmet food and style to your weekend.

Sole DXB

The fifth edition of Sole SXB takes place this weekend at the Dubai Design District (D3). An urban expression of the region’s love of music, fashion, art and the most stylish sneakers, the eclectic event includes appearances by Run DMC’s Darryl McDaniels, tennis legend Stan Smith (of the famous Adidas style beloved by the fashion pack) and photographer Lisa Leone, who has documented the evolution of hip hop for more than three decades in her striking images. Discover an under-the-radar denim brand, add to your shoe collection or visit the Luxury Arcade’s pop up store in D3’s concrete jungle in the most contemporary event to hit the city yet.

Sole DXB, Dubai Design District, Business Bay. 20-21 November, 12pm-10pm

Abu Dhabi Art

It’s the last weekend to catch Abu Dhabi Art, a series of performances, panel discussions, workshops and exhibitions taking place at Manarat Al Saadiyat (meaning ‘place of enlightenment’) on Saadiyat Island. Leading international galleries present modern and contemporary artworks, from video and sound installations such as artist JR’s Les Bosquets, curated by Fabrice Bousteau, to sculptures such as the mesmerising Crossing Boundaries by Anila Quayyum. To get a handle on the emerging art scene in the region, don’t miss Emirati Expressions: Conventions of Arts at 3pm on 20 November, a panel discussion by artists including Lamywa Gargash and Rami Farook. Solo choreographic piece, 55, by Radouan Mriziga, is another must-see: each unique performance addressing the idea of an exchange of information through movement.

Manarat Al Saadiyat, Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi. 18-21 November, 2pm-10pm

Street Nights JBR

For a bite-sized hit of culture right on your doorstep, Street Nights JBR is back this weekend. Winning Best Arts and Culture Event at the Middle East Events awards, this non-commercial community event is a collaboration between local galleries, emerging musicians and artists such as the graffiti world’s Sya One.  Add in a selection of gourmet street food and it’s the perfect way to end the week with friends. The event’s tagline is “get out of the mall” and, just this once, we’re happy to do just that.

19-28 November, The Walk JBR, Dubai
