Gucci and Frieze London explore 1988's Second Summer of Love movement

Gucci and Frieze London explore 1988's Second Summer of Love movement through a series of films by artists and filmmakers. The prelude to Distant Planet, exploring Italian disco, features plenty of Gucci get-up

The 1960's felt a counterculture across Britain, Europe and the US. In 1988, the movement exploded to far greater effect and thirty years on, The Second Summer of Love plays inspiration to Frieze London's latest project. Think electro music, anarchy and a youth movement that catapulted the world to knew creative extremes. Just as potent and influential as the original, its echoes can still be heard in modern music, mainstream pop and contemporary art. Most intriguingly for Italian fashion house Gucci - which constantly immerses itself in art and cinema - its spirit is prevalent in street style, catwalk and visual culture. Jeremy Deller, Josh Blaaberg and Wu Tsang have each created films re-working the ideals of The Second Summer of Love. In this short film, Gucci teams up with Josh Blaaberg for a mini prelude to his Distant Planet: the Six Chapters of Simona (watch here). In featuring iconic Gucci prints, the extravagance of the house and a whole lot of disco fever, the prelude is a stylish celebration of both Blaaberg's movie, and 1988.
