With a dress for every occasion, and a bag for every mood, Valentino’s Bluegrace collection is bursting with charming chintz and ‘60s floral prints to wear day or night. Painted in ivory and blue motifs, drawn from the aesthetic of 17th century Dutch pottery known as Delft, the pre-fall 2020 collection revisits Valentino’s lasting affection with dreamy Delft blue.
First used in the house’s Haute Couture Fall/ Winter 68-69 Collection, and later reimagined across the Fall/Winter 13-14 Collection, the decorative Delft pattern (and instantly recognisable colour code) become a haute couture statement for Valentino.
Tapping into the house’s archive once more, Pierpaolo Piccioli is interpreting the Delft design in new fashion for 2020, dissolving the line between daywear and eveningwear, and bringing the luxurious appeal of haute couture to RTW.
This new vision on the emblematic pottery — which often showcases blooming bouquets and quaint landscapes — is sprawled across feather-trimmed, silk separates, embroidered in ladylike lace and printed on floaty, floral dresses that fall elegantly to the floor. For top-to-toe blue and porcelain white, look to accessories (think totes, scarves and Vsling bags) adorned in fanciful blooms and exotic birds.
